David Barker
David Barker was born in 1940 and studied at Bath Academy of Art, Corsham in the UK between 1957-61. Later he went on to study at the University of London Institute of Education during 1961-62 and took study leave at Chelsea College of Art and Design between 1977-78.
David taught Art and Design and became a Senior Lecturer and Subject Leader in Design Studies at Bath Spa University College. He lives in Bath, UK but spends the summer months on the Greek island of Alonissos and winter months in Venice, Florida.
The source of inspiration for his work in Florida since 2005 has been the Modernist Architecture of Sarasota and the work of the designers for the Avant-garde Swedish Ballet based in Paris between 1920-25. Ferdinand Leger, De Chirico, Picabia and the American synchromist painter Morgan Russell were among the artists working for the Swedish Ballet.
David Barker’s paintings produced in Florida since 2005 are a fusion of the urban landscape with the dancing figure.
