Deborah Bird

Upcoming Exhibition: Gallery Nine Spring Exhibition, Private View 12th of April

Deborah Bird is a professional artist based in Leicestershire. She is particularly interested in ephemeral processes, using a combination of applied creative techniques and photographic documentation. Her artist residencies include Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona, and Crater Lake National Park, Oregon.

As a Graphic Design alumna from Bath Academy of Art, her current abstract works reflect an ongoing interest in the rhythms of typography, calligraphic mark-making, and negative spaces.

Her approach to watercolour painting is experimental, pushing the medium to its limits while celebrating its translucency, watermarks, and granulation effects.

Kerning is a new series of abstract works that explores the relationship between design, colour, and the principles of typography. These studies in watercolour, collage, and gold leaf are part of an ongoing abstract series that has evolved from her days as a student at Bath Academy of Art, stemming from a fascination with the balance of shape and colour as an intrinsic part of the creative problem-solving process.
